Mercy Outreach was birthed in January 2001 when Pastor Deon was fasting and praying. The Lord spoke to Deon with these words. "Do you know what pure religion is like?" the Lord then took Him to James 1:27 which says "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world."(NKJV) Then came Matthew 25:31-46 "When the son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He situpon the throne of His glory: and before Him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall seperate them one from another, as a shepherd devides his sheep from the goats: and He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say say to them on His right hand, come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was hungry and you gave Me meat: I was thirty and you gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and you took Me in: Naked, and you clothed Me: I was sick, and you visited Me: I was in prison and you cam to Me.
Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You? Or thirsy, and give You drink? When did we see You as a stranger, and take You in? Or naked, and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' And the King will answer and say to them, 'Verily I say to you, inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it to Me.' Then He will also say to them on the left hand, 'depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire, prepared for the devil ad his angels: For I was hungry, and you gave Me no meat: I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink: I was a stranger, and you did not take Me in: naked, and you did not clothe Me: sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.' Then they also will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Deon realized that the Lord wanted him to start helping the poor. So in March 2001 the first Mercy Outreach was held in Roodepoort, South Africa. Deon would love to hold one every year, but due to the great need and lack of funds he can only do one every 2-3 years. The funds normally come from the ministry itself. Thousands of people are saved, fed, clothed and healed in these outreaches. There is a great need for this kind of ministry and we pray that the Lord will continue to bless and provide for this great work of God!
